Presidents Ouattara of Ivory Coast and Macron of France meet to launch the construction of the Abidjan’s first metro train.
ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST — Following the AU-EU Summit being held in Abidjan, Presidents Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast and Emmanuel Macron of France officially launched the construction of the first metro train in Abidjan. As part of the ceremony, and in lieu of the typical breaking of a foundation, the leaders and their entourage rode a specially prepared train across a symbolic route in the city, between Plateau and Treichville. Fully financed by France, up to an estimate of 1.4 billion euros, the metro train is expected to be fully operational in 2022.
