Description: Igshaan Adams combines weaving, sculpture and culturally-specific materials to explore aspects of his South African environment and his own physical and cultural identity, including his apartheid classification as colored, his upbringing as Christian, his current religious practice as Muslim, and his sexuality.
Adams has held several solo and group exhibitions, and has been selected for a number of artist residencies. He is the 2018 winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art, which culminates in this solo presentation of the recipient’s work as well as a tour in South Africa.
