Description:
Founded in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, and now also known as Ailey II, the group personifies the pioneering mission of Alvin Ailey to bring to modern dance a fuller cultural community, facilitating dance presentations and instructional programs for all. In Barcelona, the program includes Circular, Breaking Point and, of course, Revelations, one of the most seen pieces of modern dance since its debut in 1960, a tribute to the African-American tradition and to rural Texas, where Ailey spent his infancy.
All choreography of Revelations are a generous gift of Donald L Jonas to celebrate the birthday of wife, Barbara, and his profound commitment to The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
